Meet our Leaders:
My name is Sandra Lopez Neill. I’m a professor at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami and the Director of the Children’s Choir here at First Miami. It’s so important for children to reinforce values and friendships by singing together. In the First Miami Children’s Choir, we learn how to read music, use our voices to express our hearts, and sing and learn in fellowship with one another- and we have a great time in the process!
I’m Bernie Gonzalez, Minister of Traditional Music at First Miami. I believe that when you sing, you express your soul in song, and when you get together with a group of other singers it becomes more than just the sum of the parts. All of those unique individuals, from different cultures and backgrounds, are pouring out their hearts and souls in perfect harmony and accomplishing a common goal. When so much of the world is at odds with itself it’s wonderful to see human beings in harmony with each other!
I am Jeannelle Benek, Discipleship Minister for Children at First Miami Presbyterian Church. I have a Master of Arts in music therapy with concentration in voice from Immaculata University. I believe music not only soothes the soul, it creates positive connections for healthy living! Engaging in music making helps release stress, build social emotional skills, problem solving skills and boosts confidence.
